FAQ - Credit / No Credit

Are "CR" and "NC" grades calculated in the grade point average (GPA)?

No.

How is a "CR" grade equated in terms of a letter grade?

A "Credit" grade is equivalent to an "A," "B," or "C" grade.

What is the letter grade equivalency to an "NC" (no credit) grade?

An "NC" grade is equivalent to a "D" or "F" grade.

Since the letter grade "D" is a passing grade, does an "NC" pass if it is equivalent to a "D?"

No.  If you opt for a "CR/NC" grade, you will not pass a course in which you received an "NC."

Can I just take any course "CR/NC?"

No.  You should not taken any course, especially a major course "CR/NC" without permission of the major department.  Undeclared majors need permission from the director of the Academic Advising Center.

How many units of "CR/NC" count toward graduation?

No more than 24 units in total, 12 units in upper-division courses, and no more than eight units each semester can be counted toward graduation.
