| ACADEMIC ADVISING IS REQUIRED FOR ALL NEW FRESHMEN BEFORE THEY CAN REGISTER FOR SPRING 2010 CLASSES. Freshmen Fall Advising sessions for freshmen take place in October.
The University Center for Undergraduate Advising serves students in 90 minute Freshmen Fall Advising workshops.
If your major is in a College listed below or you are participating in any of the University programs listed below, you should check with that office as soon as possible for detailed information about Freshmen Fall Advising. Some of these offices provide advising services very early so be sure to contact them soon.

Remember, the University Center for Undergraduate Advising is here to help you develop your spring schedule during your Freshmen Fall Advising workshop.
Important! Before you come to your Freshmen Fall Advising workshop:
- Know that the workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes and starts on time. Check-in begins 30 minutes before the workshop starts. Please be on time.
- Bring the following materials to the workshop:
- CSULB Student ID Card,

pen/pencil and paper,
- A CSULB Catalog (The University Bookstore sells the 2009-10 CSULB Catalog which contains information you need during your college career. We strongly recommend you purchase the Catalog and bring it to your workshop session.)
Read and think about the information included in items 1 - 5 (below) before you come to the workshop.
Item 1 - Are you required to take Prebaccalaureate Writing Skills, such as English 1?
- If you are required to take Prebaccalaureate English and you did not enroll in the course thisFall, you must enroll in AND pass Prebaccalaureate English in the upcoming spring semester.
- If you are not required to take Prebaccalaureate English, proceed to Item 2.
Item 2 - Are you required to take MAPB 1, 7, or 11?
- If you are required to take MAPB 1 and did not enroll in the course this fall, you must enroll in MAPB 1 in the spring semester and contact the Prebaccalaureate Advising Support Services (PASS) office in LA5-361 (and 363) or call (562) 985-7895.
- If you were required to take MAPB 7 or 11 and did not enroll in the course this fall you must enroll AND pass MAPB 7 or 11 in the upcoming spring semester.
- Be aware that all pre baccalaureate course requirements must be completed successfully by the end of the spring semester.
- If you are not required to take Prebaccalaureate Math (MAPB 1, 7, or 11), proceed to Item 3.
Item 3 - Are you currently enrolled in a Category A1 Written English course such as English 100?
- If you are currently taking a General Education (GE) course in Category A, Written English, plan to take a critical thinking course in Category A3. Remember, freshmen are required to complete their foundation courses as soon as possible.
Item 4 - Are you enrolled in a General Education (GE) foundation course from GE Categories A1, A2, A3, or B2?
- If you are currently taking a GE foundation course from Category A or Category B2, plan to choose a (different) foundation course which you are missing that will utilize the skills that you acquired in your first semester.
Item 5 - Are you enrolled in an introduction to a major course?
- If you are enrolled in an introduction to a major course this fall, plan on taking another lower division major course numbered 100-299 this spring.
- Always check the course description in the Catalog for prerequisites.
Note: Consider taking other elective courses that will help build skills. Non-GE elective courses earn units that are counted towards your degree.
Location: Workshops are held in the University Center for Undergraduate Advising in HC-103 (Horn Center-103)
Completion of the University Center for Undergraduate Advising (UCUA) 90 minute - workshop will meet the requirement to receive advising prior to registration for your spring classes. Reserve a space early for best accommodation.
