A s the Provost’s principal deputy in matters of academic programs, policies, and planning, the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies oversees the development and review of all academic degree programs and academic support units and is the university’s liaison with the Office of the Chancellor in respect to academic programs and policies.

The Vice Provost is responsible for ensuring educational effectiveness through the systematic assessment of student learning. The Vice Provost is charged with general oversight of the institution’s regional and specialized accreditations. Acting in collaboration with the Academic Senate, the Vice Provost develops and implements academic policy.

As Dean of Graduate Studies, the Vice Provost provides leadership and support to the graduate mission of the university both at the master’s and doctoral level, including a strong emphasis on student research and creative activity.

Withdrawing from Class in the Final Three Weeks of the Semester

According to CSU and CSULB policy, withdrawal during the final three weeks of instruction is permitted only in cases such as accident or serious injury where the circumstances are beyond the student's control and the assignment of an Incomplete is impractical.
