Set Up Mac Mail 4.1 for CSULB E-mail

  1. In Mac mail, select Mail -> Preferences

  2. On the Accounts windows click on the + in the lower left corner
    Account Information page under Accounts tab

  3. Full Name: your full name
    • E-mail Address: your CSULB e-mail address
    • Password: your CSULB FTP / Personal Web Space password Accounts - Add Accounts tab
    • Account Type : IMAP
    • Incoming Mail Server: imap.csulb.edu
    • User Name: your CSULB FTP / Personal Web Space username (the e-mail address without the "@csulb.edu")
    • Password: your CSULB FTP / Personal Web Space password

  4. Description: CSULB
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): enter smtp.csulb.edu
    • Use only this server : check this option
    • Use Authentication: check this option
    • Username and Password: verify these two fields; they are the same as for the incoming server.

  5. Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) : uncheck this option
    • Authentication: select password

  6. Account summary: You should see a screen very similar to this; please verify the information listed.

  7. Accounts: You will be redirected to the Accounts screen. Under the section Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) click the drop down arrow next to the server name and select Edit Server List...

  8. Under the Advanced tab, select Use custom port: and enter "587". Verify that Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is unchecked and that your username and password are correct. When finished, click OK. You should automatically be returned to the Accounts window.

  9. At the Accounts screen, go to the Advanced tab. Next to Port: enter "143". Make sure that the box Use SSL is unchecked. Close the Accounts window and save all changes when prompted.
