Personal Website

The following page provides instructions on uploading web pages to the CSULB webspace. This service is available to anyone with a CSULB Internet Account and entitles the user to 100MB of storage space on our servers, complete with PHP support and more.

If you need assistance with creating your personal website or uploading files, please contact us and one of our Support Representatives will assist you.

This tutorial will show you how to upload your documents to your CSULB Internet Account using a Windows-based machine. You may only use the box below if you are using IE5 or IE6. For Internet Explorer Version 7 or Firefox, Opera, Safari, or any other browser, proceed to follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Open My Computer from the Start Menu.

Step 2: Make sure the Address Bar is showing. If you can see the address bar at this point, skip to Step 3.
From the View Menu, and the Toolbars submenu, click on Address bar if there is not a "check mark" next to it. If there is a check mark, look at the toolbars in the window, and you should see the word Address. Right-click on it and click on "Lock toolbars" if there is a check there, then drag the word Address to that you can see the place to type an address.

Step 3: Next to Address: Type in ftp://ftp.csulb.edu/ or ftp://username@ftp.csulb.edu


Type the address ftp://username@ftp.csulb.edu


Step 4: After the "Login As" dialog appears, type in
User Name: (e.g. jsmith)
Password: (e.g. a1b2c3df)
Click on Login after typing in the correct username & password.
If this dialog does not appear, click on File > Login As

Step 5: After logging in successfully, you'll see a folder, named htdocs.
To open htdocs, double-click on the folder.

Step 6: After getting into the htdocs folder, you may simply + drag and drop the files you want to upload.
* Important : Your homepage must be named index.html (lowercase); or index.php (lowercase).
This file is displayed when a user goes to http://www.csulb.edu/~username/

You may also upload other documents in the htdocs folder, such as my_project.doc, To download this file, type in this URL (Uniform Resource Locator): http://www.csulb.edu/~username/my_project.doc


After completing step 6, open a web browser, and type in http://www.csulb.edu/~username/
then hit the enter key in order to make sure the page loads and functions as expected.
