Viewing Grades

Each BeachBoard course contains a gradebook that your instructor may use to assess your performance. Instructor use of BeachBoard's Gradebook is completely optional.  In addition, all Instructors post official, final grades - the grades that become part of your permanent academic transcript - not on BeachBoard but rather on MyCSULB.

More Information

Q: Can anyone else see my BeachBoard grades?
A: No. Your grades in BeachBoard can only be viewed by you and your instructor.

Q: When I click on View Grades, why don't I see all of my courses?
A: Technology Service Desk automatically creates a space for every course.  The instructor must manually make h/her course available before you will see it under View Grades.

Q: Why is my course's Gradebook empty? All I see is a zero under Points Possible.
A: This does not mean you have a zero in the course.  BeachBoard Gradebook use is optional for instructors.

Q: What do the Gradebook symbols mean?
A: Every Gradebook item contains either a numerical value or one of the following symbols:

  • Padlock: In Progress. You are currently using the assessment or assignment.
  • Dash: No Information. You have not taken the assessment or submitted the assignment.
  • Exclamation Point: Needs Grading. This item needs to be manually graded by your instructor. Tests that include Essay questions will have this symbol when they are submitted.
  • Question Mark: Gradebook Error. Contact your instructor immediately.
  • Checkmark: You have completed the item.

Q: Does BeachBoard "round up" or "curve" grades?
A: No. In BeachBoard, an 89.999 is a B+. Your instructor may change this, though, in his or her BeachBoard Gradebook settings.
