Self and Peer Assessment

BB Self and Peer Assessment (PDF)

Create a New Assessment

  1. Login to BeachBoard
  2. Enter your course's Control Panel
  3. Under Content Areas, click on the  Assignments link
  4. Choose Self and Peer Assessment from the Select: drop-down menu in the upper right corner
  5. Click the Go button
  6. Under the Create New or Import section,
    • Select New if you have not yet created this Self/Peer Assessment
    • Select Import if you have previously created this Self/Peer Assessment
      • You will then have an option to upload the existing Self/Peer Assessment
  7. Under the Assessment Information section,
    • Enter a Name for the Assessment
    • Enter Instructions (Optional)
    • In the Submission Dates area, set the time/date window you want for your
      students to be able to submit their individual work that will be the basis
      for the self/peer review
      • Note: Once the evaluation period has started you cannot modify the
        submission window.
  8. Under the Self and Peer Evaluations Option section,
    • In the Evaluation Dates area, set the day/time window you want to have for
      students to evaluate their own and their peers’ works submitted work
      • Note: This window should be after the submission dates you specified in #7 above.
      • Note: Once the evaluation period has started you cannot modify the
        submission window.
    • Select Yes or No for Allow Anonymous Evaluations
      • If you select Yes, names of the Evaluators are not shown, but names of submitters are.
    • Select Yes or No for Allow Self Evaluation
    • Set Show Evaluation Results to Submitter to Yes if you want each student to
      be able to see their peers’ evaluations of their work or No if you do not want
      them to be able to view this.
    • If you want to only use Self-Evaluation, Set Number of Submissions to
      Evaluate to 0. Otherwise, specify the number of peer works you want each
      student to review.
      • Note: BeachBoard randomly assigns each user the specified number of submissions to evaluate, there is no way to control who gets to evaluate
        whom.
  9. Under the Options section,
    • Select Yes or No to Make the Assessment Available
    • Select Yes or No to Track Number of Views
    • Choose Date Restrictions for this item to be visible to students. If you do not enter restrictions dates the item will be visible to students for as long as you make it available (optional)
      • Note: These dates are not mechanically tied to the submission or evaluation
        windows you specified earlier, but you should ensure this item is visible to students during that time frame.
  10. Click Submit
  11. Click OK
  12. Click the Modify button to the right of the new assessment
  13. Click the Assessment Canvas link
  14. Click the +Question icon to add your first question
  15. Enter your Evaluation Question in the Question Text area
  16. In the Model Response area, enter a model response to assist in evaluating/grading (Optional)
  17. Click Submit
  18. Click Ok to return to the Assessment Canvas page
  19. Repeat steps #12-18 to add more questions

Add Criteria

  1. In the Assessment Canvas, click the Criteria button to the right of the evaluation question
  2. Click the +Criteria icon
  3. Under Criteria Information, enter your criteria in the Criteria text box
  4. Enter the maximum number of points for this specific criteria in the Points Possible box
  5. Select whether you want to allow students to be able to give either all or nothing or partial
    credit for this criteria.
  6. Click Submit
  7. Click Ok to return to the Add/Modify Criteria for that specific question
  8. Repeat steps #1-7 to add more criteria to that specific question or click OK to return to the Assessment Canvas and add more questions
    • Note: You can preview what students will see at both the Submission and Evaluation
      stages by using the Preview option at the Assessment Canvas page. Simply select whether you want to preview the submission or evaluation view and then click Go
