Email for Students

The Email tool allows you to send email from within BeachBoard to the email account that you have designated in MyCSULB.

Composing Emails

  1. From within your course, click on Classlist on the navigation bar.

To Email Everyone in a Class

  1. Click Classlist.
  2. Click Email everyone on this tab.  A new window will open.
  3. Note: students email addresses are in the bcc section.
  4. Type your email address into the To: field.
  5. Type a brief description of your email in the Subject line.
  6. Type your message in the large text box.  The Advanced tab provides multiple formatting options.
  7. Click Browse to attach files (optional).
  8. Click Send.
  9. You will then view a list of all email accounts to which the email was sent.

To Email Selected Users

  1. From the Classlist.
  2. Click the check box next to the user's name or names.
  3. Click the  select users email  email icon.  A new window will open.
  4. Type your email address in the To field.  The recipients' email addresses are in the Bcc section.
  5. Type a brief description of your email in the Subject line.
  6. Type your message in the large text box.  The Advanced tab provides multiple formatting options.
  7. Click Browse to attach files (optional).
  8. Click Send.
  9. You will then view a list of all email accounts to which the email was sent.

To Email a Single User

  1. From the Classlist.
  2. Click a user's underlined name.
  3. A new window will open.
  4. Type a brief description of your email in the Subject line.
  5. Type your message in the large text box.  The Advanced tab provides multiple formatting options.
  6. Click Browse to attach files (optional).
  7. Click Send.

Notes:

  • You can Remove an attachment before sending it.
  • The following file types cannot be added to or downloaded from email messages:  .asp, .aspx, .exe, .bat, .dll, .com, .asa, .asax, .axd, .cdx, .cer, .config, .idc, .cs, .csproj, .java, .jsl, .licx, .rem, .resources, .resx, .shtm, .shtml, .vb, .vbproj, .vjsproj, .vsdisco, .webinfo, .ini.
  • The size of the attachments may interfere with the receiver's email system.


Compose Message options

Option Description

Address Book

Click the Address Book icon to open, in a pop-up, an address book contains the members of your course. Use the Address Book to quickly fill in the To, Cc and Bcc fields.  Acceptable Use of CSULB Electronic Communications Systems and Services.

To, Cc, Bcc

You can also send messages to contacts by directly entering their addresses into these fields (if their email is in the BeachBoard system).

Subject

Specify a subject line in this field.

Priority

Set the priority for this message as Low, Normal (default setting), or High.

Message

Enter your message into this area.

 Spell Check

Click the Spell Check icon to check your message for misspellings.

 Preview

Click the Preview icon to have a look at your message before sending it.

Attachments

Browse for and add attachments to your message. Use the Add button to add multiple attachments.

Send

After composing your email and adding any attachments. Click Send to send it. A message will display either confirming that your message has been sent or letting you know the message could not be sent.
