Notifications

Through Notifications you can set up to receive emails and/or SMS (text) messages about activity in your BeachBoard courses. You can be notified about such things as recent News posts, upcoming Dropbox folder end (due) dates, unread Discussion board posts, and/or a daily summary of activity.

Accessing Notifications

To access Notifications, click on the Notifications link in the My Settings widget on the My Home page. notifications in the my settings widget

You can also reach the Notifications page by clicking on the notifications icon Notifications icon on the top of the News widget on any course home page.

Email Notifications

To receive email notifications, make sure your preferred email is correct in MyCSULB.

  • Summary of Activity: to receive a daily summary email for each course, select Daily from the How Often dropdown menu and what time you wish to receive the email from the At What Time dropdown menu. Summary emails only include: new/updated News posts, new Discussion board posts, and the number of unattempted Quizzes. Summary emails do not include new/updated Content topics or grade items.

 

  • Instant Notifications: Check the box under the email icon to receive instant emails or check the box under the phone icon to receive instant text messages to your phone about:
    • Discussions - new message posted to a forum, topic or message for which your subscribed to instant notifications.
    • Dropbox - Dropbox folder end date is 2 days away.
    • News - item updated
    • News - new item availableinstant notifications

Discussions - new message posted: You must subscribe to a forum or topic in a course to receive email notifications about new Discussion posts. See the Discussions Help Page for more information on subscribing to discussion forums/topics.

Dropbox - Dropbox folder end date is 2 days away: Note: notifications will not be sent for Dropbox folders that do not have an end date so be sure to check the Dropbox for your courses regularly.

News - item updated: If the instructor has edited a previously posted News item, you will receive an email with the updated post.

News - new item available: If the instructor has posted a new News item, you will receive an email with the News posting.

  • Exclude Some Courses: If you wish to receive notifications from some courses, but not others:
  1. Click the "Manage my course exclusions" link.

  2. Click either Exclude All Courses or the X to the right of the course(s) you wish to exclude.manage course exclusions popup
  3. Click Close in the bottom left when done. The course(s) to be excluded should then be listed under Exclude Some Courses on the Notifications page.

If you wish to restore notifications for any course, click "Manage my course exclusions" and then either "Restore excluded courses" or the restore icon Restart notifications icon to the right of the course(s) you wish to restore. Click Close when finished.

SMS (Text Message) Notifications

To receive text message notifications, you must register your mobile number. To do so:

  1. Click "Register your mobile" under Mobile Number at the top of the page. This will open a pop-up window.
  2. Fill in your country, mobile carrier, and mobile number. Click Save when finished to receive a confirmation text.   register your mobile device
  3.  Enter the code sent to your phone into the Confirmation Code box and click Confirm. mobile number confirmation popup

Click the "Resend my confirmation code" link if you did not receive a code or click Do this later to enter the confirmation code at a later time.

  • Instant Notifications:

Unfortunately you will not be able to receive text message notifications about summaries of course activity or new Discussion board posts; these notifications are only done through email

Dropbox - Dropbox folder end date is 2 days away: Note: notifications will not be sent for Dropbox folders that do not have an end date so be sure to check the Dropbox for your courses regularly.
