CSU, Long Beach participates in the CSU - Adobe Acrobat Pro licensing agreement. It is an annual subscription coordinated by Academic Technology Services. The license required division, department or college technologists to install Adobe Acrobat Pro on only university-owned workstations including student computer labs. The software and accompanying license code MUST NOT be installed on personally owned computers. Contact your division, department or college technologist for assistance. |

The ATI Steering Committee funded the procurement of Adobe Acrobat Professional to improve the authoring of documents in accessible format as required by the Chancellor’s Office Accessible Technology Initiative Executive Order. Adobe Acrobat Professional includes an Accessibility Checker to identify problems in a PDF document that may cause issues for persons with disabilities using assistive technologies.

Follow best practices for creating ATI compliant documents in the original application (Word, PowerPoint , etc.) before creating a PDF document. Then use the Adobe Acrobat Professional Accessibility Checker to identify errors. Correct the original document, convert back to PDF and run the Adobe Accessibility Checker again. Repeat the process until no errors are reported. Once the document is error free, you are ready to distribute the document.
When you don't have the original document (Word, Powerpoint, etc), the Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Checker can be used to identify and correct problems for people using assistive technologies.
Since assistive technology and persons with disabilities vary, it is advisable that both the PDF document and the original document be distributed or posted on a website whenever possible.
ITS developed an easy to follow manual on creating accessible documents in Adobe Acrobat Professional. Also available is a manual on creating accessible documents in Word and PowerPoint .

An MSI file for this product is available for authorized Campus Techs on CSULB Software Depot. Best practice includes testing the MSI in your environment before mass deployment.
