Special Awards and Honors:

2003

Lara Worm, Women's Studies minor, won an Outstanding Service Award for her outstanding commitment and contribution to the structure and functioning of a new program in which CSULB students and WomenShelter interns work in the Long Beach Superior Court and provide crisis intervention, community resources and follow-up support to women whose perpetrators are in the court system. Lara was the first student intern to participate in the program and is now the supervising intern and trainer for new interns.

Stephanie Evans, Interdisciplinary Women's Studies major, is the first McNair scholar in the history of CSULB to go on to earn a Ph.D. A special reception honoring her was held in the University Art Museum on June 25, 2003.

2002

Jolene Sagan, Women's Studies major, was the recipient of CSULB's Student Community Service Award. A President's Scholar, Jolene demonstrated her volunteer commitment to campus programs and issues by her work with numerous organizations, serving as co-chair of the Women's Studies Student Association, secretary for the College of Liberal Arts Student Council, student liaison for Women and Philanthropy and volunteer for the Women's Resource Center, Circle K International Organization and Sexual Assault Crisis Agency.

Mae Henderson. Graduate School Medal Award AND Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Washington

Michelle Aragon and Elise Leahy. A Content Analysis of the Images of Women in Teen Magazine Advertisements: Differences between African-American and European-American women. Paper awarded First Place, Social and Behavioral Sciences, CSULB Student Research Competition and system-wide CSU Student Research Competition held at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
