Both California State University and the Department of Theatre Arts offer numerous sources of financial aid. Teaching assistantships are available to qualified graduate students. The salary for each 3 unit class is approximately $2,500 per semester. Graduate assistantships are also available ranging between $2,500 and $3,850 per semester. Each year a select number of students are also offered out-of-state tuition waivers.

The department offers numerous scholarships for undergraduate majors including W. David Sievers Memorial Scholarship in acting and the Fred Kobus Memorial Scholarship for technical/design majors. In addition, the Fine Arts Affiliates of the University and the Dramatic Allied Arts Guild of Long Beach provide monetary awards to qualified students in all areas of the theatre.

The university offers a comprehensive program of financial aid funded by federal, state, university and private sources. These programs include grants, scholarships, loans, and employment opportunities. Most awards are based on financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. We strongly recommend that you contact the Office of Financial Aid as soon as you decide to attend CSULB.

CSULB runs a Housing Office designed to assist students in obtaining both on-campus and off-campus housing accommodations including rental houses, apartments, and single rooms in private homes as well as potential roommates. In the summer there are housing workshops to acquaint students with surrounding areas, rental rates, apartment search techniques, and possible roommates. Student housing is also available on campus in several residence halls. The present facilities can accommodate approximately 1,750 students. Students wishing to live in the dormitories should contact the Housing Office directly for information and a housing application (562/985-4187 or www.csulb.edu/~housing/).

Many Theater Arts students post information in the Theatre Arts building concerning availability of apartments and room in the campus area. To guarantee satisfactory housing, students are urged to arrange for this prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
