Do I need to audition in order to be admitted into the Theatre Arts Department?

No, there is no audition necessary to declare a theatre major.  Once you are admitted to the university you may declare a theatre major.

What is a “new student audition”?

The "new student audition" gives incoming theatre majors an opportunity to meet the faculty and be placed into an appropriate acting class.

If I am a technical student do I need to attend the “new student audition”?

Yes. Technical students will have an opportunity to meet technical faculty, tour the facility, and receive a portfolio review. Any student can declare a technical option upon entering the department.

What degrees does the Theatre Arts Department offer?

The Theatre Department offers a BA in Theatre (general, performance, directing, and technical). The department also offers MFAs in acting, design, management and an MBA/MFA in management. For more info on the graduate program; click here

How do I become a performance option major instead of a general option?

The Theatre Department offers the BA with a general option or an emphasis in performance. All incoming students, including transfer students, must be in the general track upon entrance to the department. There are specific course requirements and an audition in order to be admitted into the performance option in the third year.
