  • BA in Theatre Arts

    Students are expected to:

    1. Participate in the creation and presentation of public performances of theatre.
    2. Develop visual and aural perceptions related to theatre performance, as well as a structured approach to the use of language in writing for and about the stage.
    3. Understand and demonstrate basic production processes such as acting; directing; stage, costume, and lighting design; and basic technical operations related to stage productions.
    4. Demonstrate knowledge of the historical and cultural dimensions of theatre, including the works of leading playwrights, actors, directors, and designers, past and present.
    5. Understand and evaluate contemporary thinking about theatre and related arts.
    6. Make informed assessments of quality in works of theatre.
    7. Develop a clear understanding of the interaction between script, actor, and audience and the areas of scenery, lighting, sound, and costume.
    8. Develop means of effective verbal and visual communication.
    9. Develop and demonstrate competence in the technical skills necessary to produce theatre at a professional level.
    10. Develop the skills necessary to effectively use the library and internet for research.

    • In-class critiques by faculty and guest professionals of individual work
    • Successful completion of running crew and other production responsibilities

  • BA in Theatre Arts: Option in Performance

    Students are expected to:

    • Achieve the core outcomes for the General Option with the addition of the following:
      • 11a. Become familiar with and demonstrate competence in a number of theatrical performance techniques.

    Other than GPA, what measures/indicators determine that graduates have achieved the stated outcomes for the degree?

    In Class Activities

    • Sequential curriculum
    • In-class critiques by faculty and guest professionals of individual work
    • External review of public performances
    • Successful completion of running crew and other production duties

  • BA in Theatre Arts: Option in Technical Theatre

    Students are expected to:

    • Achieve the core outcomes for the General Option with the addition of the following:
      • 11b. Develop the expertise needed to complete the design process from script to shop to the finished product on stage.

    • Sequential curriculum
    • In-class critiques by faculty and guest professionals of individual work
    • Successful completion of running crew and other production responsibilities
