  • Master of Fine Arts in Theatre: Acting

    Candidates have advanced critical thinking and writing skills.

    1. Themes, practices, and aesthetic imperatives of contemporary theatrical trends;
    2. History and methodologies of acting theory
    3. Analysis and performance of Shakespearean text
    4. Principles of vocal production and maintenance
    5. Motors and dynamics of physical expression

    Other than GPA, what measures/indicators determine that graduates have achieved the stated outcomes for the degree?

    IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

    • Sequential curriculum focused on Stanislavski, Chekhov, and Meisner techniques and exercises; Scene work; Seminars and discussion forum.

    OUTSIDE CLASS ACTIVITIES

    • Theatrical performance; Creative Project Report requirement.

  • Master of Fine Arts in Theatre: Design

    Candidates have advanced critical thinking and writing skills.

    Candidates have substantial knowledge of:

    1. Themes, practices, and aesthetic imperatives of contemporary theatrical trends;
    2. Play text analysis to conceptualize design
    3. Communicating a visual concept
    4. Utilizing CAD and other software for theatrical production
    5. Creation of a personal portfolio and website
    6. How to market skills to pursue design engagements

    Other than GPA, what measures/indicators determine that graduates have achieved the stated outcomes for the degree?

    IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

    • Classroom projects
    • Study of current conceptual and practical design techniques
    • Seminars and discussion forum

    OUTSIDE CLASS ACTIVITIES

    • Portfolio presentation
    • Design and installation of theatrical productions
    • Creative Project Report requirement

  • Master of Fine Arts in Theatre: Management

    Candidates have advanced critical thinking and writing skills.

    Candidates have substantial knowledge of:

    1. The role of management and artistic staffs in the regional theatre environment
    2. How to function in all areas of theatre management (marketing, development, PR, production management and fiscal management)
    3. The issues facing theatre managers today and how to solve them
    4. How the arts culture and its patrons view regional theatre
    5. How to articulate and create strategies for marketing a theatrical season
    6. How to integrate a development plans and marketing plans to create a season mission for a theatre's external affairs

    IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

        Investigation and application of current theatre management practices and business models;

        Seminars and discussion forum. 

    OUTSIDE CLASS ACTIVITIES

        On-site theatre management duties at Edison and Studio Theatres;

        Creative Project Report requirement.
