This minor allows students in other majors to gain an understanding and thorough introduction to
university level statistics.
The requirements are as follows:
- The student must complete 26 or more semester units by following one of the two sequences:
- File a Declaration of Minor Form (DMF) that has been approved by a Statistics Minor advisor. (This form may be obtained at the Math/Stat Dept. office, FO3-120.)
- Complete all requirements for the minor by the time the bachelor’s degree has been completed.
Sequence One: MATH 122, 123, 224, 247, 380, 381, and any two of the following:
MATH 323, STAT 410, 450, 475, 482 and/or 484 .
OR
Sequence Two: MATH 122, 222, 247, 380, 381, and any three of the following:
MATH 323, STAT 410, 450, 475, 482 and/or 484 .
For either sequence, F=Fall, S=Spring
Required Course to be taken after MATH 380 Probability
MATH 381 (F,S) Mathematical Statistics
Course Electives:
MATH 323 (F,S) Numerical Analysis (can be taken before MATH 380)
STAT 410 (F,S) Regression Analysis (can be taken at the same time as STAT 381)
STAT 450 (S) Multivariate Statistical Analysis (requires STAT 410 and STAT 381)
STAT 475 (S) (can be offered also in summer) Data Analysis With SAS (requires STAT 381)
STAT 482 (F) Random Processes (requires only MATH 380; STAT 381 is not needed)
STAT 484 (S) Actuarial Science (requires STAT 381)
Attain at least a 2.0 GPA over the courses taken for the minor.

Notes:
- If the DMF if filed before receiving the Grad Check, the minor requirements will be checked at the same time as the major requirements. If the DMF is filed after the Grad Check, inform Enrollment Services. A separate Grad Check for the minor will be done. There is no “program planner” or similar document to be filed with this minor, but if substitutions must be made, ask a Statistics Minor advisor for an appropriate memorandum.
- A minimum of 6 units of coursework towards this minor must be taken at CSULB. All courses counted toward this minor must be in Mathematics and Statistics departments.
- Majors in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics are not eligible for this minor.
- The same courses may be used to fulfill requirements for both this minor and the student’s major.
