Thank you for your interest in a Graduate Assistant position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

To apply for a graduate assistantship to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics,the procedure is to apply for a general graduate assistantship. The most common graduate assistantship involves assisting an instructor in large lectures. The full description is below. However, there are occasionally a few more graduate assistantships that involve helping in our computer labs.

We are accepting applications for the following positions for the academic year 2005- 2006

The deadline for receipt of all required Assistantship Application materials is:

April 1 for Fall semester (however, applications for assitantships will be continued as long as positions are open)

  and

November 1 for Spring semester.

Graduate Assistant Position to instructors of large lecture classes

   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

B.A. or B.S. degree with at least 24 semester units of upper-division Mathematics and at least a 3.0 GPA in all upper-division Mathematics. Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at CSULB. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Graduate students may not be employed for more than six semesters.

  DUTIES:

The Graduate Assistant will be assigned to two or three large lecture courses to assist the instructors with the administration of the courses, attend those courses on a regular basis, provide four office hours per week to assist the students' learning of the course material, and will serve three hours per week in the Mathematics Learning Center.

Applicants without formal teaching experience will be considered only for the graduate assistant positions. The graduate assistant positions serve as training for teaching assistant positions. In general teaching assistants are hired from among the current graduate assistants.

Also, we will have tutoring assistantships in the department available. For these you would work in the tutor room on a set schedule during the week (about 15-20 hours).

SALARY:

$6,823 per semester ($13,646 a year) paid in monthly installments for a Teaching Assocate

$5,490 per semester (10, 980 a year) paid in monthly installments for a Graduate Assistant
