RGRLL Students Named 2008-09 U.S. Fulbright Fellows

On April 24, 2008, CSULB’s Pi Chi chapter of the Sigma Delta Pi Hispanic Honorary Society celebrated the initiation of four new members: Fernanda Farrell, Evelyn Barrientos, Theresa Freet, and Brenda Novela.  Members of the society, professors, friends, and the chapter’s advisor were all present at the ceremony.  The Gabriela Mistral award was granted to Cristina Metz for her academic achievements, which have led her to a doctorate program at the University of California, San Diego.  The academic efforts of Jeff LeGrue and Gustavo Potzkin were also recognized with honor cords.  These outstanding students of Hispanic language and literature are the pride of the Pi Chi chapter of CSULB.  The ceremony was intimate and solemn, and was conducted by the Pi Chi student committee: Patricia Cortés (master of ceremonies), Nelly Goswitz (webmaster), Irma Hernández (treasurer), and Linsay Wuchner (secretary).  Dr. Bonnie Gasior, the chapter’s advisor, played a fundamental role in the organization and successful execution of the ceremony.  Lastly, it is worth noting that Sigma Delta Pi has a very promising future here at CSULB.
