Home Latino Caucus Status Committee Graduate School Research Events

An Appointed Committee of the American Political Science Association

What the Status Committee Is

The Committee on the Status of Latinas/os in the Profession is an appointed Committee of the American Political Science Association (APSA).  The Committee is appointed by the President of the APSA and serves staggered terms.

What the Committee Does

The Committee's responsibility is to inquire into the status of Latinas/os in political science and to represent the interests of Latino/a faculty and graduate students within the APSA.  They periodically report to the APSA Executive Committee and make recommendations as to how to increase the numbers of Latinas/os represented within both the discipline and the Association.

Current Committee Projects

In conjunction with the Latino Caucus, the Committee is embarking upon a long-term effort at recruiting to the profession Latino undergraduates and students of all backgrounds interested in studying Latino politics.  This project has tentatively been titled "The Roadshow" and includes the creation of the Fund for Latino Scholarship and the design and maintenance of this website.  The Committee has also been conducting outreach to the significant number of Latino faculty who teach at community colleges, but are not currently active in the APSA.
