Liberal Studies Mathematics Concentration For ITEP or Track 1

ITEP (Integrated Teacher Education Program)

This concentration is designed for people preparing to complete a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. It meets all core and concentration requirements in mathematics for Liberal Studies majors who intend to teach in elementary or middle school or wish to become a mathematics specialist in elementary or middle school. Completion of this Concentration in Mathematics also fulfills the state's requirement for a Supplementary Authorization in Introductory Mathematics which would allow you to teach mathematics in grades K-9. A student who has finished a mathematics concentration may file for this Authorization when filing for their Multiple Subject Credential. ITEP Core Requirements:

Area II: Mathematics: (Minimum 12 units)

Group 1. Probability and Activities-Based Statistics: MTED 105*
Group 2. Real Numbers: MTED 110
Group 3. Higher Math: MTED 211*(*Students who choose a Math Concentration must take MTED 312 instead of MTED 211)
Group 4. Integration and Assessment: MTED 402***

ITEP Concentration Requirements:

Group 1. Technology: MTED 301
Group 2. History of Mathematics: MTED 315
Group 3. Number Theory and Algebraic Structures: MTED 320
Group 4. Functions, Models and Concepts of Calculus: MTED 325

* MTED 105 should be taken before MTED 402.

** AII,G1 means Area 11, Group 1

*** To meet the prerequisites for this course and concentration requirements take MTED 110, MTED 312 and a course in Critical Thinking with a "C" or better in each course.

Note: MTED 211 can be used as a lower division elective if taken before MTED 312. However, MTED 211 is not open to students who have taken MTED 312.
