GDEP Track 2 Launches!!!
GDEP has been funded by the National Science Foundation for a second run of
four summers, after its highly successful first run of three summers
(2002-2004)!
We launched our second run in the summer of 2008. We have completed building
our team for our second summer of GDEP Track 2, which you can see listed on
the bars framing this page. Congratulations to everyone who could join us
this summer.
We will be running projects on such diverse topics as the geoarchæology
of Rapa Nui (Easter Island, yes, GOING there!) and on the biogeography and
geology of Palos Verdes Peninsula (with trips to other sites in the region).
We start on June 29th with a busy week featuring two days on campus learning
about the projects, field and lab safety, our library and laboratory
facilities, and generally getting acquainted with our teams. The next two
days will be spent largely in the field, getting familiar with some of the
sites we'll be working. Friday, we get to recuperate during the Fourth of
July long weekend!
We will also be running community field trips to some of the GDEP field sites,
just so the friends and family of GDEP interns can learn cool things from the
experience, too!
To learn more, please keep an eye on our web page, and you can e-mail us at
the link above, too!
