Bonnie Blackburn, B.S., M.A., M.F.A., is a writer, poet, artist, and educator. She earned her M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. After helping launch two tech startups in the education sector and having formally trained and worked as a clinical therapist, Ms. Blackburn felt strongly pulled back towards the classroom. She served as the Campus Learning Strategist for Utah Valley University, researching metacognition while teaching psychology and cognitive learning courses, then returned to school and received her M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from the Theatre Arts Department at CSULB. Ms. Blackburn draws heavily from her psychology background while teaching fiction and film theory and screenwriting courses.

One of Ms. Blackburn's current writing projects involves co-authoring a book on the future of schools and technological education reform with video game industry founder Nolan Bushnell (creator of Atari). She has also published articles for the First Amendment Studies Center located on campus, has had her writing performed in productions by CalRep and the University Players at CSULB and has produced several live arts events at the University, including acting as executive producer for the Sony CSULB Premiere Film Festival in 2007.

In addition to her teaching role in Film and Electronic Arts, Ms. Blackburn teaches undergraduate liberal arts courses and serves as the Thesis Writing Instructor in the M.F.A. Fine Art program at the Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach. As equally enamored of science and engineering as she is of the arts, Ms. Blackburn enjoys geeking out over citizen scientist projects, and she likes to "write" while running, hiking, or kayaking.
