Fees and Finances – Details

Refunds

Refund regulations for the California State University System are prescribed by the California Code of Regulations, Title V, Section 41802.

Important: It is YOUR responsibility to drop classes, regardless of the reason, by the deadlines to avoid charges or be eligible for a full or pro-rated refund. Failure to track your enrollment and student account records at MyCSULB may result in charges and holds preventing critical university services. If you had a financial aid fee deferment in place when you registered and are later determined ineligible for aid, or you decline your aid, you must drop your classes. Students who do not plan to attend in Summer 2008 after all, should drop all classes before the first day of instruction of each session. After the session begins, students who drop all their classes will owe pro-rated fees based on the date of withdrawal.

Refund Schedules

Refunds are based upon the beginning date of the session (not the first class meeting), and the date classes are dropped.

Full refund if you drop prior to each session

Last date to drop or withdraw and receive a full refund minus a $10 refund processing fee:

SessionDates
Session I June 1, 2008
Session II June 22, 2008
Session III July 13, 2008

Refund if you drop some but NOT all classes

Last date to drop some classes and receive a 100% refund minus a $10 refund processing fee:

SessionDates
Session I June 9, 2008
Session II June 30, 2008
Session III July 21, 2008

If you withdraw from all courses refer to pro-rata refunds below.

Pro-rata refund if you drop all of your classes after the session has begun

Students who completely withdraw from the summer term will receive a refund pro-rated on a daily basis up to the 60% point of each session:

SessionDates
Session I June 25, 2008
Session II July 16, 2008
Session III August 6, 2008

How to Calculate Pro-Rata Refunds

  1. Count the number of calendar days from the first day of the session to the actual withdrawal date.
  2. Divide that number by the number of days in the session, example: six week session = 40 days.
  3. Multiply the result by actual fees paid to get your pro-rated fee.
  4. Subtract pro-rated fee from actual fees paid. This will be your refund.

Summer refunds will be processed in August 2008. If you paid your fees by credit card, your refund will be credited to the credit card that you used to pay. If you paid by cash, ATM/Debit, check or e-check, your refund check will be mailed to you. A $10 refund processing fee, and any outstanding fees or changes, will be deducted from your refund.

If you would like to receive your refund as credit toward next semester's fees, you will need to go to the Cashiers' Office, BH-148, windows 8,9,10.
