The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act allows CSULB to release "directory information" about current and former students to other organizations and agencies. The University restricts "directory information" to your:
Name
Major
Dates of attendance at CSULB
Degrees and Awards earned at CSULB
To request that this information NOT be released, write a letter EACH semester to Enrollment Services (BH-101), making your request clear. CSULB is also required by law to release specific information for U.S. military recruiting purposes. To authorize the University to release other information to specific parties, contact Enrollment Services (BH-101) at (562) 985-5471.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires the University to provide information about each student for use in determining tax credits and deductions. This information includes:
Social Security number
Tuition payment amounts
Payment of other expenses
Interest on any educational loans
The California Code of Regulations (Section 41201, Title 5) and the Internal Revenue Code (Section 6109) require you to provide the University with your correct Social Security number. The University uses your Social Security number to idenify your academic records and to collect any debts you may owe to CSULB. The University also uses your Social Security number to file information required by the IRS as noted above. The IRS may penalize any student who does not provide the University with his or her correct Social Security number.
