What is Spring Advising?
Spring Freshman Advising is required of all Freshman students. Through this process, you will be connected to your College or Department advisor if you declared a major or are in pre-major status; if you are a member of a Special Student Program, you will continue to work with your Special Program advisor.
This connection is one of the most important steps to your future success at the Beach! We feel so strongly about insuring you have advising as you prepare for your sophomore year, that we require all freshmen to participate in the program prior to registering!
In addition, CSULB advisors can assist in a variety of different ways by working with students to:
- Broaden interests
- Develop academic and career goals
- Identify major areas of academic interest
- Create realistic plans of study
- Increase decision-making skills
- Take responsibility for academic direction
What can I expect during my Advising Session?
You may be advised in a group or individually, depending on your major. During your advising session, your advisor may:
- Provide general information regarding your program of study
- Assist you in choosing classes to support your educational goals
- Assist you with registration and program major changes
- Review your academic goals and objectives
- Refer you to other offices for additional assistance if necessary
How do I prepare for my Advising Session?
To make the best use of your advising session, we suggest you bring the following materials with you:
- A printed copy of your Academic Requirements Report (You can run this from MyCSULB — select “Academic Requirements” from the left menu once you sign in.)
Do I need to make an appointment for my Advising Session and, if so, how?
Not all Colleges/Departments require appointments. Many are offering their services on a walk-in basis. To determine if you need an appointment, find your major department under the appropriate College below and click on the College. This will connect you to more detailed information about your advising session.
When and where are my Advising Sessions?
Your advising sessions are scheduled according to your program. Find your department/program below and click on the College. You will be provided with detail information regarding how to sign up for your advising sessions as well as where and when they will be held.
Undeclared Major
If you have not declared a major, you will continue to be advised by the University Center for Undergraduate Advising; however, if you have interest in a specific major, you are encouraged to attend an Advising Session offered by that College/Department - see College list below.
