Undergraduate Procedures for Reactivation of Graduation

The reactivation process is for students who previously filed to graduate and then broke continuous attendance without completing all degree requirements and now seek to complete their degree.

According to University policies, students who have not maintained continuous attendance must meet new University requirements in effect at the time of the student’s return or reactivation. In addition, if you plan to enroll in courses at the University, you must reapply and be readmitted to the University.

Continuous Attendance

Defined as attendance in a course at a California Community College, CSU, or UC campus for at least one unit credit in at least one semester each calendar year. (CSULB extension courses DO NOT count toward continuous attendance.)

Catalog Rights

Undergraduate students acquire "catalog rights" with respect to the requirements for a program by maintaining continuous attendance. Failure to remain in continuous attendance voids catalog rights and graduation status.

Reactivation is not admission to CSULB

Students needing to re-enter the University and enroll in courses MUST submit an admission application. Applications can be submitted through csumentor.

Major Requirements

A current program planner must be submitted in a sealed department envelope.

All reactivation students must consult with their department to establish major graduation requirements. Students who have failed to maintain continuous attendance must meet the regulations current at the time of resuming the degree program or those applicable at the time of graduation.

All major requirements, substitutions, waivers, or transfer equivalencies must be noted on the program planner. Documentation must be received in a sealed department envelope and submitted with the reactivation request. Program Planners and Catalog Rights for students who do not maintain continuous attendance at CSULB are valid for ONE calendar year only. If you previously broke continuous enrollment, you must re-enter under the current catalog year. The major requirements approved by the department are valid ONLY for the major.

All upper-division coursework required for the major must be completed within a 10 year period preceding the award of the Bachelor’s degree. Consult with your major adviser regarding possible revalidation of courses in question.

NOTE: If your major has been discontinued and is no longer offered at CSULB, you must choose a new major currently offered and submit a current program planner.

University & General Education Requirements

The major requirements approved by the department are valid ONLY for the major. Students are responsible for all University requirements in effect at the time of reactivation. These may include, but are not limited to, the current General Education pattern and the Writing Proficiency Exam. You may have additional General Education requirements to complete under the current General Education pattern.

Student Records

Any student returning after three years must re-submit transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended. These transcripts must be official and submitted in a sealed envelope.

Filing

  • Complete the "Request for Reactivation" form.
  • Attach an official Program Planner in a sealed envelope and submit with fee to BH101.

Upon receipt of your "Request for Reactivation" form and Program Planner, your file will be reviewed and you will be notified of your status. If there is no record that you previously filed for graduation, you will be asked to submit some form of documentation showing that you previously filed.

Failure to submit any documentation required will result in the request being voided. (Fees are non-refundable.)

Deadlines and Fees

The reactivation is $10.00. All other fees and deadlines are the same as filing to graduate. Current deadlines and fees.

Attending other institutions to complete requirements

Students attending another institution to complete graduation requirements must submit a "Request for Enrollment at Another Institution", available at Enrollment Services. BH101.

Academic Standing

Students who have been disqualified from the University and have not yet been reinstated are not eligible for reactivation. You must be reinstated before filing for reactivation.
