Lower Division Transfer Opportunity for Undergraduate Engineering Majors

California State University, Long Beach will continue to accept applications from highly qualified lower division transfer students who wish to major in Engineering.

CSULB offers bachelor's and master's degrees in Engineering in five departments:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management
  • Computer Engineering and Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Background

As a high demand campus, CSULB must limit its enrollment consistent with state enrollment priorities. As a result, CSULB typically does not enroll lower division transfer students – those with fewer than 60 transferable semester units or 90 transferable quarter units. However, the university determined that the total number of courses taken by many transfer students majoring in Engineering often exceeded the number of units needed to graduate from CSULB. This is often due to the lack of lower division engineering courses being offered at Community Colleges.

Therefore, CSULB will support timely transfer and graduation by providing exceptionally qualified students wishing to major in Engineering the opportunity for lower division transfer.
