The faculty and staff of the Department of Design and the College of the Arts are pleased to announce that Professor Martin Herman has been elected as Department Chair. 

Martin has been a faculty member at CSULB since 1989 in the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, and previously  served as Chair of the Philosophy Department from August 2007 through 2010. He holds a B.A. from Duke University, an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in composition from the University of California, Berkeley.

He has taught harmony, musicianship, counterpoint, form and analysis, materials of modern music, composition, electronic music composition, basics of MIDI, and graduate theory seminars. His many specialties include composition, computer assisted composition, multi-media authoring, interactive computer music, Schenkerian analysis, and world wide web publishing.
