Professor Peter Barker who joined CSULB in 2012, is a well qualified and experienced industrial designer having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering before taking a masters degree in industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London. He worked for over ten years as a consultant industrial designer with clients in Europe and the US covering many varied industries including access platforms, metrology technology, home products, bicycles and toys.

As a design educator his work in Europe over twenty years included holding the post of principal lecturer and program manager in the Department of Industrial Design at Coventry University in England, as well as visiting lectureships and external examiner positions at several other universities in England and one in Spain.

He is widely respected as an authority on the design and development of the Mini car, and his research publications cover automotive design and development, automotive design history and driver fatigue and training.
