Misty Copeland
This semester, CSULB Dance is lucky enough to have two amazing Guest Artists staging works by world-renowned choreographers on our students. Fiona Lummis, a former member of Nederlands Dans Theater, is staging Jiri Kylian’s Falling Angels on 12 dancers for the CSULB Dance in Concert show in April. Additionally, highly sought-out master teacher Eddie Taketa is in residency in February as he stages Doug Varone’s Aperture on many of our graduate students for the MFA’s Bloom concert in March. Our Department is also welcoming many amazing master teachers to each of our modern dance and ballet courses this semester including Julie Burrer (Doug Varone & Dancers), Misty Copeland (Soloist, American Ballet Theatre), Eddie Oroyan (Black Label Movement), Summer Lee Rhatigan (Artistic Director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance), Eddie Taketa (Doug Varone & Dancers), and Sara Wookey (reDANCE). CSULB Dance is also excited to welcome Guest Speakers such as Janis Brenner (Janis Brenner and Dancers), Brenda Dixon Gottschild (writer on dance and culture), Molly Gardner (Long Beach Arts Council), Bonnie Oda Homsey (Martha Graham and American Repertory companies), and Professor Wendy Rogers (UC Riverside).
