  • JB3 Floor WorkJohn Beasant III, a former company member of Doug Varone and Dancers and guest artist with the José Limón Dance Company, joins the dance faculty for 2013-14.

  • Tara McArthur Lift- Photo by Fred HayesAlumna Tara McArthur returned to CSULB in October as a part of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company.  Tara and other company members taught master classes to the dance majors and spoke with dance majors at a Brown Bag Lunch she inspired the majors with her story and advice.  Tara was featured throughout the Ririe-Woodbury concert in the Carpenter Performing Arts Center showing her growth from undergraduate dance major to professional dancer.


  • JB3 Floor Work58 dancers over the age of 30 descended upon the Dance Center the first weekend in October for the 2nd annual Masters Pro Dance Workshop.  The dancers who formerly danced with a variety of teams and companies including the LA Laker Girls, LA Clippers Dancers, San Diego Charger Girls, Sacramento Kings Fastbreak, the Radio City Rockettes, and Complexions Dance Company helped raise nearly $6000 for Department of Dance student scholarships.

  • Scholarship students Kelly Attwood, Evelyn Cortes, Rocio Cruz, and Christian Fajardo performed at the Fine Arts Affiliates Scholarship Showcase on October 27.

  • 2013 Fall MFA Dacne Concert: EvoluteMFA choreographers Liz Curtis, Alison Hart, Kathleen Helm, and Maggie Phillips presented their latest works in Evolute, the MFA concert in October.

  • Professor Karen Clippinger is currently on leave for the fall semester as she revises her textbook, Dance Anatomy and Kinesiology.

  • Associate Professor Lorin Johnson, currently on sabbatical, is busy researching the history of dance in Los Angeles and traveling to St. Petersburg, Russia to oversee the photographic exhibition he is co-curating at the Russian State Museum of Theater and Music: Russian Los Angeles: Stravinsky, Innovation and Dance.

  • Professors Keith Johnson and Andrew Vaca will present work in Momentum, a concert of former company members of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, December 12-14 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
