Maria T. Pacho was born and raised in Boyle Heights in the City
of Los Angeles. Currently, she is the Marketing and Public Relations point
person for St. Francis Medical Center Earn Respect Program. She has taught
at California State University, Long Beach in the Chicano and Latino Studies
Department since the Fall of 1999. Her class entitled Latina/o Health
Status and Health Care Access is an interdisciplinary course on the health
status and access issue affecting Latino sub-populations in the US. She
is a part time professor at Charles Drew University School of Medicine
and Science teaching Introduction to Public Health. In 2000, Maria was
elected Commission President for the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical
Monument Authority Commission also known as Olvera Street/Placita Olvera.
She is actively working on capital projects such as the restoration of
the Siqueros Mural. Maria is an active board member for the Weingart East
Los Angeles YMCA.
Prof. Pacho graduated from California State University, Long Beach
in May of 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mexican American Studies. She
continued her graduated education at Loma Linda University, School of
Public Health with a Master of Public Health, emphases in Community Health
Promotion/Education and Administration.
Prof. Pacho is working on a manuscript on Latina Health "Cancer
Screening and Risk Reduction for Latina Women in Los Angeles County,"
