Integrative Physiologist

POSITION:   Assistant Professor preferred; Associate Professor considered for exceptionally experienced candidates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph.D. in biology, physiology, or related field at time of appointment.  Successful candidate will have post-doctoral research experience and a record of published research in integrative systems physiology of animals and demonstrated potential to develop and sustain an externally funded research program involving students.  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching of animal physiology, and related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum two years of postdoctoral research with experience utilizing proteomic and functional genomic techniques in animal systems physiology. CSULB houses the Center for Education in Proteomics [CEPA]) whose goals are to encourage the collaborative use of proteomics and related technologies (http://www.iirmes.org/). Preference will be given to candidates who can utilize this facility.  Prior successful teaching at the post-secondary level, preferably in physiology.

DUTIES:  Teach and develop upper-division course(s) in an area of animal physiology.  Rotate through lower division undergraduate courses, graduate courses and seminars.  Supervise undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) student research.  Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program in physiology involving students and leading to scientific presentations and publications.  The successful candidate will be expected to participate in activities serving the department, university, and community. 

PROBABLE SALARY RANGE:  Assistant Professor: $65,500 - $71,000; Associate Professor: $71,500 – 79,500 (based on preparation and experience)
