Long Beach Mounted Police Scholarship for students interested in veterinary science
The Long Beach Mounted Police was established in 1935 to promote good horsemanship and serve the City of Long Beach. Currently, the group acts as good will ambassadors for the City of Long Beach throughout the United States and internationally by appearing in parades and other charitable functions.
The Long Beach Mounted Police has an interest in educating the public about horsemanship, horse programs and opportunities for young people to participate in equestrian events and activities. In 2006, the Board of Directors voted to establish a scholarship in the amount of $500 a year to be awarded to a student at the college level with an equestrian background or a student studying in the fields of veterinary science, animal husbandry, or animal training. In 2007, the Board voted to increase the Scholarship to $1,000.
Qualifications:
- Must be a full-time student, and have declared a major in the natural sciences at CSULB with the goal of pursuing veterinary science/medicine or animal husbandry as a career.
- Must have completed at least 75 units of college work with a grade point average of 2.5 or better.
- Demonstrated financial need
