Habitat:    reefs and sandy areas
Typical food:   algae and coral polyps
Other information:    their "beaks" are used to scrape algae and polyps from coral and rocks, but in this process
a lot of limestone is also eaten and ground in their gullets so that they excrete much sand for the tropics; shy;
at night often sleep in their protective mucous membrane
