Software and Database Licenses
ACS supports campus software and database needs
by participating in CSU system-wide licenses as well as by negotiating
our own campus licenses. These agreements support the objectives
of the CSULB Strategic Planning Mid-Range Goals 2002-2005 by advancing
Planning Area VI, Information Technology. These products provide
the tools that support a foundation for excellence in teaching
and learning, and promote efficient personal productivity of the
faculty, staff, and students.
Specifically, Mid-Range Goals 1 and 2 are as
follows:
- Support faculty involvement in high quality
instruction enhanced by technology.
- Develop collaborative campus-wide efforts
to promote the efficient use of technology support resources
for academic and administrative uses.
- AutoDesk Software (e.g. AutoCad 2002)
- ESRI Geographic Information Systems Software
(e.g. ArcView)
- Microsoft Campus Agreement (See below)
- Symantec Norton Anti-Virus Software (e.g.
Corporate Edition)
- Statistical Software (Minitab, SAS and SPSS
and SPSS-AMOS)
The CSU Microsoft Campus Agreement includes the
use of Office Professional, Publisher, FrontPage, Visual Studio.NET
Professional and Windows XP Professional for the period of January
1, 2003 to December 31, 2005. Campus installations of these products
are performed by the division and/or college technical support
staff. Home use is only available through the purchase of media
at the 49er Shops Bookstore Computer Center.
ACS contributes a portion of its budget for the CSU Specialty
Database Centers. These database centers provide on-line access
to financial, social, census, and biologic datasets. These specialty
centers are used by faculty and students for classroom and research
projects. The centers and their campus locations include:
- Engineering Specialty Center (Sacramento State)
- Geographic Information Systems Specialty Center
(San Francisco State)
- Macromolecular Structural Analysis Resource
Core Specialty Center (San Diego State)
- Social Science Database Archive (CSU Los Angeles)
ACS provides test scoring services at the Horn Center Development
Lab. Scantron's ParScore software can be used to score and grade
student tests as well as to collect evaluation and research data.
ParScore forms are available at the 49er Shops Bookstore.
Faculty can also take advantage of the 888P+
test scoring scanners available at selected campus locations.
The Scantron Loan Marketing Program maintains these standalone
scanners on the campus. Scantron forms are available at the 49er
Shops Bookstore. Current locations for the 888P+ scanners can
be found at the ACS website.
