Brief on Long Beach
 

Air and Ground Transportation
Long Beach hotels are 15 minutes from Long Beach Airport and provides complimentary shuttle service. The hotel is 25 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (that is north of Long Beach), and also 25 minutes from John Wayne International Airport in Irvine (that is south of Long Beach) with a shuttle bus service.


Conference Hotel and Vicinity
Westin Hotel has the largest meeting facilities in Long Beach downtown hotels and amenities in an ocean view setting. Across the street is the edge of the boardwalk of Shoreline Village facing Queen Mary, a floating hotel short distance away, that has seasonal exhibits/shows and has several high quality restaurants and cabin hotel rooms. Shoreline Village is a waterfront shopping area with shops, cafes, and restaurants. Harbor Cruise leaves from Shoreline Village. Pine Avenue, a block from the hotel, is a safe downtown area offering nightly entertainment along with theaters. The new Aquarium of the Pacific opened in June 1998 features more than 10,000 ocean animals and is a five minutes walk from the hotel. All the above are served by a free shuttle bus from hotels.

Catalina Island is 22 miles off of Long Beach coast, connected via jet boats. There also is a private Gondola Cruise for those who want an individual romantic experience. Disneyland with its new Tomorrow Land opened in May 1998 is 15 miles from the hotel. Knott's Berry Farm is 12 miles.

Industry and University
Port of Long Beach is the leading port in America (together with the adjacent Port of Los Angeles, handling more cargoes than New York) and Long Beach is the home of the Toyota Grand Prix auto race and the International Jazz Festival. McDonnell Douglas-Boeing airplane manufacturing facilities and Rockwell International are nearby the campus of California State University, Long Beach which is six miles from the downtown hotels. Also, Long Beach is the headquarters of the California State University System, the largest public university system in the country.
