Welcome Prospective Freshmen and Parents

Thank you for considering Engineering at The Beach! We think you will find our programs engage and prepare students to achieve success in the rapidly evolving demands of engineering and computing professions. Our curriculum emphasizes real world applications by linking classroom theory to lab-based learning experiences.

In addition to maintaining strong partnerships with industry, many of our faculty members are key leaders or managers in their field. Early on, our freshmen are immersed in engineering and participate in a freshmen learning community that stresses teamwork and We invite you to explore the many challenging and exciting engineering, computing, and engineering technology degrees currently being offered at CSULB.

What are the admission criteria for the College of Engineering?

Currently the College of Engineering is a non-impacted major and does not require supplemental admission criteria beyond CSULB’s minimum qualifications. How Should I Prepare for a Degree in Engineering?

Preparation is the key to success in all majors and this especially true for the challenging curriculum in our engineering programs. Although engineering is open to all students, we find that those who experience the most success in our programs arrive at CSULB with a solid foundation of Science and Mathematics principals. To ensure this, we suggest students maintain a rigorous high school schedule which includes the following courses:

Recommended High School Courses

  • 4 years of mathematics (e.g. algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus)
  • 4 years of lab science (e.g. physics, chemistry, biology)
  • 4 years of English (composition and literature)
  • 2 years of social sciences (e.g. U.S. history, government, economics)
  • 2-3 years of electives (e.g. computer science, art, music, speech)
  • 2 years of foreign language

When is the application deadline?

The following key dates and deadlines apply to First-Time-Freshmen. You must apply during the Initial Filing Period for consideration.
