CSUF Science Extravaganza - 2005
The California State University,
Fullerton (CSUF) student chapter of the Society of Mexican American
Engineers and Scientists (MAES) hosted this event for approximately
300 middle school students, including those from our MSP center.
The CSUF chapter of MAES teamed up with chapters from other universities
and colleges, including CSU Long Beach, UC Irvine, Santa Ana Community
College, and USC to coordinate event activities.
There were fourteen workshops total, where each group of students were able to attend five workshops. There
were workshops that were technical in nature, such as “gumdrop bridges”, web page design, robotics, and
electronics workshops. There were also workshops that taught students about what they must do to be prepared
for college.
Lunch included a keynote message from Mr. Robert Navarro, a manager for the solar powered Pathfinder Plus
aircraft and for the High Altitude and Long Endurance (HALE) project at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center
in Edwards, CA.
