Dr. Parvin Shariat
Dr. Parvin Shariat received her Ph.D from the University of Southern California, majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. She also received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Design. Her publications are related to superplastic materials.
Upon her arrival at CSULB in 1996, she organized the Materials Lab for the Engineering Technology program and wrote lab procedures for the Materials and Heat Treatment laboratories. She has taught most of the courses offered in the Engineering Technology Program. As a member of ASM International, a materials society, Dr. Shariat has organized educational classes for the members of industry. She is also a member of ASEE.
At present Dr. Shariat is very much interested in the area of Engineering Education and how to enhance student learning in the classroom. Distance education, using technology in the classroom, and assessment is another area that is important for her. Recently, she made a presentation at the "Frontiers in Education" conference. Dr. Shariat teaches an "Introduction to Engineering" class to MESA students during the summer. This course was designed by Johns Hopkins University and introduces high school students to the various engineering disciplines. Dr. Shariat is a member of the Technology Faculty Learning Community and the BeachBoard Special Interest group at CSULB.
