Dr. Grote
received his doctorate in Engineering from the Technical University
of Berlin, Germany, where he also served as an Assistant Professor
from 1979 to 1984. In 1986, after two years at CSULB, he returned
to Germany where he became head of the Engineering Design Division
at the Volkswagen subsidiary IAV in Berlin. At IAV he was responsible
for several innovative engineering projects in the design area.
While Dr. Grote was working at IAV, he also served as assistant
to the undersecretary for research and science in Berlin.
In 1990 Dr. Grote joined the faculty of the Mechanical Engineering
Department at CSULB. Dr. Grote is the editor of the Engineering
Handbook "DUBBEL", published by Springer Verlag, which
is now in its 21st Edition with over 1 million copies sold (

and co-author of the most successful book in Systematic Engineering
Design "Pahl/Beitz: Konstruktionslehre" - Springer-Verlag
