Profile:

Dr. Barclay Gilpin received his BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and his MS and Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. He worked as an Engineer on Nuclear Reactors for Westinghouse developing and testing new alloys and manufacturing processes, and running X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy labs. He then became a Senior Scientist at the Astropower Laboratory where he was principal investigator for many research and development contracts with various government agencies. This work included fracture mechanics, corrosion, alloy development, manufacturing, electron microscopy and metallography.

Currently, Dr. Gilpin is an Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering with primary teaching areas in CAD/CAM, Manufacturing, Materials, Finite Element Analysis, and Mechanics. He has primary responsibility for the CAD/CAM computer facilities and for the manufacturing laboratories. Dr. Gilpin's current research and consulting activities are primarily in CAD/CAM, manufacturing and biomedical devices. He has done extensive testing, finite element analysis, and materials evaluation for tissue heart valves, mechanical heart valves, intraocular lenses, artificial joints and other devices.
