Program Policy
Transfer Units
Students may transfer a maximum of six units of the 30 units required for the MSCS degree, subject to the approval of the CECS graduate advisor. Units earned through "Open University" are considered transfer units. No transfer units may be used to fulfill the 21-unit graduate credit requirement.
7-year Limit
All requirements of the MSCS degree must be completed within seevn years from the date the first course of the student's approved program was completed.
Advancement to Candidacy

Graduate Thesis
A student who wishes to complete a Graduate Thesis, please consult with the Graduate Faculty Advisor.
Probation
Graduate students are placed on academic probation if they fail to maintain an Overall Grade-Point Average of at least 3.0 (B) in all upper division and graduate level courses taken since admission to the degree program. Students who remain on academic probation for more than two consecutive semesters are subject to academic disqualification.
Continuous Enrollment/Graduate Studies GS700
Registration in GS700, offered by University College and Extension Services, is restricted to graduate students who have completed all other course work, have been advanced to candidacy, have department and school approval and require additional utilization of university facilities to complete their thesis or comprehensive examination. Student shall receive zero credit for enrollment in this course. Application forms are available from the department.
Writing Proficiency Exam
A student must demonstrate competency in writing skills as a requirement for graduation, by passing the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE). For more information on WPE, please consult the University Catalog.
