Prerequisites
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or other appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university, with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 in the last 60 semester units attempted.
- Credit in the following courses or their equivalents: One year of instruction in an object-oriented programming language,

- Students must consult with the program graduate advisor prior to enrolling in any course for the program.
Requirements (Effective 2008/2009 Catalog Year)
Students must complete a minimum of 30 graduate and approved upper-division course units including the following:
- At least 21 units at the graduate level of instruction;
- CECS 528;
- One course from the Computer Science Fundamental Areas;
- Two courses from the MSCS Application courses;
- All students must complete either:
- a comprehensive examination, or
- a thesis with oral defense which requires a total of 6 units of
CECS 697
or 698,
of which at least 4 units must be CECS 698.
