Profile:

Quonset huts In 1959 I came to Long Beach State as a freshman majoring in Electrical Engineering. I graduated in 1963 after seeing the School of Engineering get its first buildings, EN2, 3, & 4. We were so happy to get out of the Quonset huts that served as our temporary class and lab rooms.

I also was here when the IRE and the AIEE merged into the IEEE in January of 1963. We also started the Tau Beta Pi chapter while I was here. I worked for seven years in industry designing surface to air missiles, various DC10 systems, and worked on the Apollo program. In 1976 I returned to Long Beach and graduated in 1978 with a Master’s degree in EE. I started teaching here as a lecturer in 1977. I was a full-time lecturer in 1980 when I went to UCI to start on a PhD in EE. My research area was medical ultrasound. I became a tenure track faculty in 1986. In 1995 I was elected to be the Department Chair in the Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department. In 2004 I served as an Interim Associate Dean for a year and in 2005 I retired on the FERP program. In 2007 I came out of retirement to serve as Interim Dean until our new Dean was hired. In 2008 I re-retired to the FERP program. Go Beach!
