Associate—Long Beach Operations

Summary

Urban Science is a Global consulting firm that advises auto manufacturers to optimize their retail sales and distribution channels by providing market analysis and software tools for managing retail networks and customer relationships.  Urban Science operates in offices in North America, Europe, and Asia/Pacific region and over the years its client list has included most of the world’s major automakers.   

This person will support the delivery of specialized services in our Long Beach office focused on a local automotive client.  This role is targeted at an Associate level (less than two years of experience), but the organization will consider Sr. Consultant level (next level above Associate) candidates as well.  This individual will focus primarily on Network Analysis and will be viewed as an expert with regards to issues with the client’s dealer network.  This individual will also support the client’s use of MarketSmarts®, which is an Urban Science proprietary software application, by teaching and assisting them in using the functionality within the software.  Above all, this person will use technical skills to independently execute high quality data-related projects and assignments in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage client databases utilizing Urban Science proprietary software such as MarketSmarts®
  2. Use SQL Server to extract and manipulate data by writing queries, joining data sources, etc.
  3. Responsible for creating and generating reports that will be used as a monthly sales evaluation tool. The client will use this tool to determine what the optimal results should be for their dealer network
  4. Focus on improving new and existing processes to effectively and efficiently communicate data from various sources such as dealership sales and financials, vehicle registrations, customer satisfaction, demographics, economics, etc.
  5. Plan, organize, develop and deliver client-requested projects and ad hoc requests within in prescribed time schedule. The client-requested projects  and requests will be used to communicate dealership performance to find profit, sales and efficiency opportunities
  6. Track, process, analyze and verify data using Microsoft products, such as Excel and Access
  7. Adhere to quality control standards for Urban Science and the client
  8. Other duties as assigned

  • Needs to have a fundamental understanding of database concepts in order to complete client requests that fall outside of MarketSmarts® capabilities, which require gathering and manipulating data manually from multiple databases
  • Needs to have a fundamental understanding of MS Excel for charting and graphing of data, writing formulas within cells, and/or filtering, sorting, and formatting data
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple concurrent tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members and have dedication to meeting and exceeding their expectations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • College level math skills and solid mathematical grounding required
  • Skills to execute simple statistical analysis software programs and create scatter plots, bar charts and histograms
  • Knowledge of basic descriptive statistics
  • Knowledge of relational database fundamentals, including creating and executing queries, creating scripts, importing/exporting data, and manipulating data
  • Strong commitment to the Urban Science Mission to provide state-of the art solutions to our customers’ problems worldwide, utilizing scientific problem solving tools and computer technology driven by real-world experiences
  • Oral communication skills necessary to express ideas clearly to individuals and groups, including clients.
  • Written communication skills necessary to effectively communicate ideas in a clear, concise manner at a level appropriate for the audience
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify alternative solutions, applying appropriate Urban Science methodology

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Baccalaureate degree in a technical field (engineering, applied math, computer science, applied science, MIS , or other) from an accredited U.S. college or university, or equivalent foreign institution is required, master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of SQL is preferred.  If candidate does not have minimum SQL knowledge, they must some fundamental computer programming knowledge and skills
  • Technical skills necessary to support Urban Science systems.  Prior experience with MarketSmarts® and DNAP is a plus
  • Microsoft Word, Access and Excel skills required
  • Must have demonstrated programming proficiency, preferably in .NET or C#
