Upper–division Transfer Admissions Requirements

Minimum Requirements for CSU Transfer Admissions

  1. Must have 60.0 semester (or 90.0 quarter) transferable units.
  2. Must complete minimum of 30.0 semester (or 45.0 quarter) G.E. units.
  3. Must complete: a) Written English, b) Speech, c) Critical Thinking, d) G.E. Math.
  4. Currently, applicants who are CSU-eligible (with GPA = 2.0) are encouraged to apply (but need to have a back-up) and will be considered for the "Competitive Admissions" round. We cannot publish or guarantee admission criteria since we are impacted at the entire Transfer level. GPA is subject to change for any specific semester. Applicants advised to contact Enrollment Services: (562) 985-5471.
  5. A cumulative GPA = 2.40 is required for non-California residents.

Minimize G.E. to only that which is required for CSU Transfer as part of the 30.0 unit G.E. requirement, complete coursework as follows:

  1. Area A: 9.0 units total
  2. Area B (Math): G.E. Math (4.0 units) OR if ready, Calculus I (4.0 units): 4.0 units total
  3. Area B (Physical Sci): Physics 100A (for Tech) or Phys151 (for Engr): 4.0 units total
  4. Area C: 6.0 units total (for students under the 1999 and prior G.E. patterns, there is a G.E. waiver in C3; leave 3.0 units as a "G.E. hole" to be fulfilled at CSULB by Upper-division G.E.)
  5. Area D: 9.0 units total (for students under the 1999 and prior G.E. patterns, there is a G.E. waiver in D2; leave 3.0 units as a "G.E. hole" to be fulfilled at CSULB by Upper-division G.E.)
  6. Area E: disregard (for students under the 1999 and prior G.E. patterns, there is a G.E. waiver in E if C3 is not used; leave 3.0 units as a "G.E. hole" to be fulfilled at CSULB by Upper-division G.E.)

This will result in 32.0 semester units.

Maximize Transferable units by taking Prerequisites/Preparation for the Major

As part of the 60.0 unit requirement for Transferable courses, we recommend:

An additional 24.0 - 28.0 units of major preparation and prerequisite courses. We recommend that you fulfill the remaining units with Major courses (e.g., Chemistry, Calculus II, Calculus III, Phys152, Phys100B, MAE172, CECS174, CE205. Biol200 or Micr200). As these additional 24.0 - 28.0 units will differ for each major, please refer to the: 4-year, 5-year, and 6-year curriculum guides.

NOTE: G.E. Waiver is for Engineering Majors ONLY! (not applicable to Computer Science)
