Welcome to Long Beach! The 2014 American Society for Engineering Education Zone IV Conference will be hosted by the College of Engineering/California State University, Long Beach. The conference will be held on April 24-26, 2014 at the Holiday Inn Long Beach Airport Hotel & Conference Center. Located in sunny Southern California, Long Beach is easily accessible; you may travel via Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or the Long Beach Municipal Airport (LGB).
Conference Theme: The conference theme, "Student Success Is Our Success", will provide an excellent opportunity to present and share innovative tools, pedagogies, and best practices for addressing the challenges of engineering education. Particular emphasis will be on student outreach, recruitment, retention, and other success strategies that aim to increase the 4-year graduation rate and reduce the achievement gap for under-represented minority students. Strategies that enhance learning across the curriculum are also encouraged.
About ASEE Zone IV: The ASEE is a multidisciplinary organization that promotes excellence in instruction, research, public service, and practice to further education in engineering and engineering technology. Zone IV, the largest of ASEE's regional groups, includes three sections: Pacific Southwest (Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada), Pacific Northwest (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Canada-Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan), and Rocky Mountain (Colorado, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming).
Participation: We welcome participation of educators from all engineering, engineering technology, and STEM-related disciplines. We encourage participation of educators and paraprofessionals from universities, community colleges, K-12 schools, industry/corporate partners, and college students. The program has been designed to offer opportunities for networking and inter-institutional collaboration.
Program Overview: The conference activities will include: paper sessions, workshops, a poster showcase (for work in-progress), a forum with industry and educational leaders/partners, a career fair for students, and an operational tour of Boeing's famous C17 military transport aircraft facilities. The highlight of the conference will include an awards banquet aboard the historic Queen Mary luxury liner (including a tour of the legendary steam ship).
We look forward to seeing you in Long Beach!
