National Center for Science in Early Childhood

Our Mission

To make developmentally-appropriate science available to preschool children throughout the United States by serving as a national advocate on behalf of science for young children, their teachers, and their families.

Services of the Center

  • Create awareness of both the role and benefits of science for pre-school youngsters.
  • Gather and disseminate information about age- and developmentally-appropriate early childhood science approaches, curricula, activities, and other resources.
  • Offer training opportunities to assist teachers and early childhood leaders who wish to engage children in age- and developmentally- appropriate "sense of wonder" science.
  • Establish a National Network of "Head Start on Science" Training / Dissemination Sites.
  • Seek affiliations with a broad spectrum of science and early childhood professional organizations who share our interest in making high-quality science experiences available to young children.
  • Work with others toward incorporating appropriate science training requirements in Early Childhood certification programs.
  • Share information about the Center and about science for young children through a variety of avenues such as a Center website, occasional newsletters, and workshops and conferences.

*Initiation of this work made possible with support from the American Honda Foundation.
