CSULB's Jewish Studies Program announces the following scholarships and student award opportunities for 2009:
The Toni and Alex Horowitz Scholarship: one award of $500
The Toni and Alex Horowitz Scholarship is awarded to a student in the College of Liberal Arts with a focus on Jewish Studies. To qualify, a student must have a GPA of 3.5 or better, and be an undergraduate in his or her junior or senior year. Applicants must submit a 1-3 page paper discussing why they wish to focus on Jewish Studies and what they plan to do upon graduation. The student should also be actively involved in community service within the Jewish community and address this service in his or her paper.
The George R. and Beverly August Student Award: two awards of $1000 each
Students wishing to apply for the George R. and Beverly August award must have an exemplary academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better. To qualify, students must write an essay explaining why they deserve the award and how they intend to be of service to the wider community, provide a letter of recommendation from a professor, and submit a paper written for a course affiliated with Jewish Studies [for a complete list of eligible courses, please contact Dr. Blutinger].
The Dr. and Mrs. Seymour L. and Reva S. Alban Current Year Scholarship in Jewish Studies: one award of $3,400
Students applying for this scholarship must demonstrate a great financial need in order to graduate. To qualify, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, must be an undergraduate in his or her junior or senior year, and must either be enrolled or have taken a course affiliated with Jewish Studies [for a complete list of eligible courses, please contact Dr. Blutinger]. Applicants should provide a written statement explaining their financial need, a list of their income and expenses for the semester, and a copy of their Financial Aid Award summary from MyCSULB.
